Tonight after 7 years of various treatments, setbacks, hopes, dreams, successes, trials, perseverance, fight, commitment and love for the kids and me, Eddie finally laid down his sword and stopped the fight with the kids and my blessing. He was so blessed to have a room full of special people in the waiting room outside ICU and surrounded by some of the finest humans I have ever imagined knowing. So many came to say their goodbyes and share their love. Our children were awe inspiring and beautiful and heartfelt in saying good bye to their dad. As I told Dylan, she is not unfortunate that she only had "daddy" for 9 years. She is the most fortunate that she got to have a daddy like Eddie for 9 years. He was the best and will be remembered always by all of us.
I pray that he is at peace and watches out for us always.
Please give us our space tomorrow and check back here for the time and place of the funeral services.
We love you all.
Lorin, Dylan and Matthew (and Eddie because he is still with us always)
Your honesty and eloquence was a source of comfort to us all even while we in turn wished to comfort you. But the only tool we had to do so was our love - for you, the kids and, of course, Eddie. He will be sorely missed. A hole has been carved out of each of our hearts but as you said so well, instead of mourning the loss, we are to celebrate the blessing of our years of friendship. Many blessings and much love.

ReplyDeleteGod bless you, Eddie Michaels.
ReplyDeleteLorin, your strength, commitment, patience, and love ... your willingness to share Eddie during these difficult months ... is truly inspirational. We at CS are flooded with emails asking how best to support. Just know that your family is valued, appreciated, and loved.
Knowing Eddie has made me a better Principal, husband, father ... person.

It was been an honor to know Eddie and your family. It is entirely unsurprising how he bravely he fought his illness for he had the motivation of a beautiful wife, daughter and son. His understated manner belied a steely determination. No one who knew him, will ever forget how optimistic he remained. I will carry that smile and hopefulness with me forever. We will miss you, Eddie.

Lorin,
ReplyDeleteI will never forget the words you once used to describe meeting Eddie...you said "he was worth the 'wait' in PLATINUM"! He will always know he was truly loved and adored by you. And, that love you have for him will help provide you the strength and courage to carry you and your children forward.

ReplyDeleteDearest Lorin,
ReplyDeleteI keep starting this over and over again because I just can't find the right words to express my deep felt condolences. Perhaps there are no right words, just love that I want to send your way. I also want to thank you for your brave fight and honesty. Eddie fought hard, and I know you fought hard too. You are an inspiration. I can't imagine the strength it must take to share this journey with others. Please know that I would do anything to help in any way. We are all so blessed to have been included in Eddie's life and continue to be in yours, Dylan's and Matthew's, always...
Much love,
Sharon Lee

How you found the strength to write something so touching is a testament to your strength and the strength of Eddie and the bond you two shared.
ReplyDeleteI feel so fortunate that Eddie has and will always be a part of my life and my families life.
Lorin:
ReplyDeleteOur paths crossed so infrequently over these last years but whenever I did see you, I couldn't help but notice how you GLOWED - and it was so clear it was because of Eddie and the wonderful family you two had created. The time you had together was not enough but the blessings will live on...and the love behind that glow will be forever.
My heart is so heavy for your loss and my prayers will be with you and Dylan and Matthew.
Love,
Beth McCauley
Lorin,
ReplyDeleteThe Monday Night Football Crew referred to Eddie as "Fast Eddie". As if cast from a Damon Runyon story, with that wry smile and unflappable manner, Eddie always seemed to be up to some sort of something....something that we all wanted to be part of. It was clear that Eddie also genuinely liked people, all kinds of people. I can only imagine that was because he found the good in individuals. That is something the world could use more of. Fortunately, we at least all got a dose of that, and continue to see that wry smile in the faces of Dylan and Matthew. Not a bad legacy at all, Fast Eddie.

ReplyDeleteJust heard the news. We are heartbroken, but he is at peace now.
I love what you told Dylan about the gift it was for her and Matthew to have Eddie in their lives for those precious years. And, I know he will always be a part of your families spirit.
This is a quote by the poet Rumi which gives me solace at times like this. It goes:
"When I die, I shall dance with the angels. And when I die to the angels, what I shall become, you cannot imagine."
So much love to your family.
